On a gorgeous sunny Thursday in July, our lovely couple Emma and Robin tied the knot, surrounded by an abundance of multi-coloured florals and, of course, their closest family and friends, which included their two little dogs!
Their wedding day theme was very much inspired by our English country garden. However, what made their day so special was their Lord of the Rings twist and all of the other personal touches that were completely unique to the newlyweds.
After a relaxing morning of preparing for their day with a delivery of Gail’s pastries, Robin and Emma were able to have the outdoor ceremony of dreams on the top lawn after a dodgy looking morning of weather. The top lawn suited their vibe perfectly with the vibrant variations of colour throughout the boarders. Led by Toast Celebrant Sally, their wedding ceremony was particularly personal, heart-warming and not a dry eye in sight!

Following this, Emma, Robin and their amazing photographer Kate got a cracking confetti shot as they came back down the aisle together. They then enjoyed an outdoor reception with canapés, prosecco and Guinness served in flute glasses because why not! Playing in the background was The Hope Street Busking Band who have taken the chilled vibe of busking on the streets to busking at weddings.

In honour of The Lord of the Rings, Emma and Robin transformed Hilltop into their very own Shire which included themed table and stationery decorations, a middle-earth treasure hunt, treasure chests for tables with a quiz and drinks tokens and the Fredo-booth where guests could use props and costumes.

Their little dachshunds made an entrance during the wedding breakfast as a surprise organised by Emma for Robin. It was a beautiful, happy moment for everyone!

There was a choice menu for the wedding breakfast where guests could enjoy our finest dishes with a post-dinner treat of Emma and Robin’s favourite local ice-cream from Bidlea Dairy.

Emma and Robin’s creativity was complemented by the amazing florals by Fox and Bloom. The flowers were all British grown flowers and were designed to create a whimsical, fantasy land where guests could immerse themselves into something so very magical. The flowers and all of the décor reflected exactly that.

It was a pleasure to be part of Emma and Robin’s truly unique wedding day and to experience a Lord of the Rings themed wedding like no other!

Words from Emma & Robin:
From the day Olivia first introduced us to Hilltop back in 2024, it felt like the right place for us. The gardens & lawns were stunning – exactly what we were looking for, for our summer wedding; the venue itself, the perfect backdrop. The way the venue unravels with its outdoor reception bar & garden games, spacious marquee & disco offering opportunities for lively conversation, exploration & fun. Iain & your team’s food had us hooked at the tasting event and was exceptional on the day. The number of guests who commented on everything from the canapes to the wedding breakfast (that crumble!), through to pizzas in the evening, confirmed we’d made the right choice. We ultimately chose Hilltop because of how important good food was to us and you absolutely smashed it out of the park. Thank you!
Beth your organising & coordinating was brilliant – going above & beyond to help us pull off your ideas & making sure we were informed, supported & guided throughout. We wouldn’t have known where to start without you. Thank you!
Cam, your bar team are a credit & your custom Lord of the Rings cocktails were a huge hit. Alba our flower girl’s favourite part of the day was in her words ‘when they added the blood to the Dragon Fire cocktail & when her brother’s tongue turned blue after sipping his ‘Wizards Rocket’. Thank you!
Emil, the music & MC was just as we hoped – smooth, seamless & understated – thank you for accommodating our band & also those off piste song requests in the early hours!
Clare, Leah, the gardeners, the cleaning team who helped take down all our all our weaponry, costumes & pegs – you were all so friendly & accommodating.
It was the best day of our lives. One we will always remember with big smiles & we are so glad we chose to have it with you.
Wishing you all the best for the rest of the season & beyond.
Love Emma & Robin xx
